So my poor baby who's recovering from her dog bite has to stay in a crate for three weeks or so while her fractured and pinned leg heals. I bought a pretty big crate, her box fits in there along with her food and water, leaving her enough room to lay down but that's about it. I take her out a few times a day for short periods to let her walk around in my floor, carefully watching where she goes. But to put her back in the crate and hear her constant meowing breaks my heart.
Has anyone else ever had to contain an animal? What can I do to make her a little happier?
Poor kitty, and poor you! No, I've never had to do that, and it would absolutely break my heart, too. I can't think of anything else you can do to make her happier. At least she's home with you, in a familiar environment, not at a vet hospital. I guess all I can say is stay focused on the fact that this is for her own good, as much as she dislikes it and it hurts you. It's probably tempting to let her out more than you should, but that might mean her injuring herself all over again.
I definitely feel for you. Listening to a cat cry constantly is not pleasant. But like Alicia said, keeping her in there as much as possible is for her own good. Do you have something she likes to lie on such as a small pillow, one of your slippers, a T-shirt or something like that which you could put in the crate with her?
all my blankets she lays on are too big to put in there, she likes to tipb over her water sometimes. Maybe a shirt I've worn or something will do.
Maybe put the crate next to a window so she can look outside. My cat likes doing that a lot throughout the day.
only problem is, my windows in my room are too high. I'd even put the thing up on my bed so she could look out if I thought I could lift it lol.
Aw, poor baby kitty. It's sad shehas tobe stuck in a crate. Maybe you could let her lay by you at night, but that might tempt her to walk around more than she I was also going to suggest puttng a blanket in there, but that idea was taken. Sorry it's so hard.
No, I don't think the cat would stay put if Cala tried to let her lay there at night. And, if Cala is sleeping, how will she know the cat hasn't gotten up and walked away? Is the crate somewhere where the sun might shine in on it? Many cats like to sun themselves. So even if your windows are too high for her to see out, the sun might come in there and help. I know it's winter now, but sun still does humans good, maybe the same is true of kitties.
I know it's tough. We had to contain a cat we had after he broke 3 toes...It was misory for all of us, but we found there was little we could do to make him happier. Cats like to be where they want; not where you put them, at least all the cats we've had have. :) Good luck, and just remember, it is for her own good, and if you cater to the meowing she'll just do it more cause she knows she's getting you to do what she wants. I know it's tough, but it's necessary. Though, at times you might try taking her out and just letting her lay on your lap...Not get up and wander around...That could help, but if she gets wressless and wants to wander off I'd suggest recrating her immediately.
Meow! meow! meow! meow!
Why not fold up the blankets then put them in the crate?
Mine didn't so much mind going on the carrier. It was when the car started moving that he really took issue. Meow! Meow! Meow! Meow! On the up side the vet said he was in excellent health and he behaved for his shots. And all the folks at the clinic were amazed at how big he'd gotten.
